Monitor ESD in Real-Time

Jun 24, 2019

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) damage is a common problem for all semiconductor manufacturing facilities. ESD will continue to plague manufacturing floors as devices continue to shrink with greater functionality. With smaller devices less energy is required in an ESD event to cause device damage. Unfortunately, grounding conductors, ionizing non-conductors, special handling materials and manual monitoring can only do so much to prevent these ESD events that occur in a period of 1 – 10 nanoseconds. Therefore, constant audits and updates to ESD controls have become a large part of manufacturing operations, leading to more resource requirements and operating demands. At MCT, we understand the risk that an ESD event is significant and growing.

MCT’s ESD Solution

Our approach and solution to ESD is real-time monitoring and event prevention. MCT has a commercially proven, closed-loop ESD monitoring and ionization system for our SH-5000 and SH-5300 Strip Test Handlers. Our solution allows the operator to simultaneously detect, measure, record, and monitor electrostatic voltage based on limits set by the operator. If an event, as defined by the operator, does occur, an alarm will stop the handler and alert the operator.

The MCT Ionizer solution reduces the chance of an ESD incident and reduces the engineering time spent during manual monitoring. Ultimately, it helps prevent from shipping damaged product.Customers, particularly in the automotive space, that have our ESD monitoring system installed in their SH machines have experienced a significant decrease in ESD incidents. This is only possible due to our success in developing machines, kits, and tools for testing at extreme temperatures required for automotive devices.

While reducing the cost of test is our core mission, we don’t compromise the quality and functionality of our handlers. We work hard to ensure our clients and partners are equipped with the best kits and tools to deliver the products their customers demand.

MCT Provides Positive Outlook and Expansion

Aug 13, 2018

And announces launch of redesigned website

Minneapolis, MN – MCT Worldwide, LLC, a leading supplier of semiconductor back-end equipment, reported strong growth in 2017 that has continued through the first half of 2018. This growth reflects greater adoption and increasing interest in strip handlers by current and prospective customers for reliably lowering the cost of test across a wider array of semiconductor devices. The company expects 2018 to see similar growth as the previous year as the company grows alongside the continued progress in the semiconductor industry.

The growth in the company and overall industry has allowed MCT to expand its engineering, product, and customer support teams. The company continues to explore new markets and develop new products while leveraging its expertise in automation, robotics, and handler technology. MCT continues to develop its next generation of handlers to meet the increasingly demanding needs of the semiconductor industry.

In 2016, the company launched an updated SH-5300 Tri-Temp Strip Test Handler, which was received well within the market as evidenced by the company’s growth. Also, the company released its new MH-3300 Laser Mark Handler for semiconductor assembly and test operations in 2017. MCT’s commitment to the strip test process allows it to consistently develop its handlers to address the current demands of its customers.

Customer interest in reducing the cost of integrated circuit testing through strip test continues to foster MCT’s objective to be at the forefront of strip testing. The company’s versatile SH-5000 and SH-5300 Tri-Temp Strip Test Handlers have received strong interest and orders from IDM’s and OSAT’s worldwide. Furthermore, MCT has experienced growing demand for its MH-3000 and MH-3300 Laser Mark Handlers and FH-1200 Film Frame Handler.

To reflect the positive changes, the company redesigned its website to reach new customers and maintain consistent contact with our current stakeholders. The site was designed to put a focus on MCT’s best-in-class strip handler products, evidenced by its 46-year history, and to create an extensive resource on the benefits of strip testing.

As the semiconductor industry continues to grow and evolve amidst the technological, economic, and political changes, MCT remains dedicated to its mission to maintaining a culture of integrity; working for the benefit for all its stakeholders and championing the strip test process while delivering world-class technology that drives down the cost of IC testing.
